The gaps in human rights protection for older people are of international concern, with the need for collaborative action between older people, academics, civil society organisations, policy makers, health and care professionals and many more. A new Human Rights of Older People Research Consortium will provide a platform to strengthen the role of gerontology and interdisciplinary research for enhancing the protection and enjoyment of human rights of older people, welcoming researchers who are interested to contribute to the topic without the need for prior human rights expertise. 

The new Consortium was announced at the ‘Human Rights of Older People Networking Conference‘ held on the 27th of April, which was funded by the BSG and co-hosted by Dr Caroline Green and Dr Chloe Watermann at King’s College London, Age International and the Institute of Gerontology at KCL. The event organisers welcomed around 25 in person delegates and up to 50 online participants to take stock of the current situation of human rights processes on the international, European and UK level and to discuss some pressing human rights topics, like racism, intersectionality and ageing and ageing with disabilities.  The agenda, presentations and recording of the event can be accessed here.
